Erin Kelly [00:00:00]:
Hey, Erin from MemberVault here. I start off this video by saying that it is incredibly informal and I know that there is laundry in the background. Hopefully it's not super disruptive for you when watching this, but it was the only time the house was quiet without the toddler and baby running around. Of course, there's laundry going. So life, right? So I want to walk you through what the starter conversation product is and why you're going to be using it. So once you import the product into your MemberVault account, what you'll do is you'll just go to your product page and then edit the product and it'll bring you to this view. So you have a couple of different options. You can make it invisible, you can make it active, which means it's going to show up on your binge and buy marketplace.
Erin Kelly [00:00:42]:
When it's invisible, it means that you can send the link to people and that they will see it, but that if someone just goes onto your main marketplace view, they're not going to see that product. So it's a really handy way to have a bunch of different products without having a really cluttered binge and buy marketplace. So you're like making some specific products viewable on your binge and buy marketplace, but then maybe you have some invisible products that are to reward really engaged users or that you are maybe sending to people that have been clients before that you want to have a special offer for them. The sky is the limit on how you want to do that, but that's what the invisible option gives you, the flexibility. So for the purposes of this particular strategy that I'm going to be walking you through, I would recommend setting up as invisible. And again, I'm going to tell you one strategy for the start a conversation product. But you can use this product and the idea of this product for so many different ways in like, in so many different ways. Like you can, you can have it always available in your marketplace.
Erin Kelly [00:01:47]:
You can, you know, use it for like people that are coming through from your podcast. You know, there's so many different ways to do it. But in this particular use case, we are going to be giving access to all of your email subscribers. So they are already on your list. So we're not going to have to bother with a signup type or anything like that because these people are already on your email list and we're not going to make it visible on your binge and buy marketplace because again, we're not going to make it so that people can sign up for it, we're going to just give them access. So in this case, we're going to set it as invisible. The type is regular because this particular product is super simple. It's, you know, the product is basically one module, one lesson.
Erin Kelly [00:02:32]:
So it doesn't need to be progressive or drip or anything like that. No need to get fancy. Then the title is. This is start a conversation, right? So the reason why the title is like this, when you import the template is so that you can see what template name it is. But you're probably going to want to change this because your email subscribers, that's not going to really be super relevant to them. It's going to be like, what does she mean? Like start? Or what does he mean, start a conversation? So I would recommend either changing this to the module name. So currently the module name is tell me about you. So the product could be, you know, tell me about you.
Erin Kelly [00:03:10]:
Or you can come up with some other creative name that you want. Like, it really can be, it can be playful, it can be informal. It doesn't have to be, don't spend a ton of time, don't get stuck in trying to figure out the title name because it really, it doesn't matter that much. I just would recommend changing it from start a conversation. I mean, it could be as simple as, like, hey, and then the first name. So it would be, let me just show you. It would be, oops, hey, first name. So it could be something like that again, just don't, don't spend a ton of time here.
Erin Kelly [00:03:50]:
So that's the title and then the image not giving you an image. So definitely you can grab something inside of canva, just one of their, like, really nice looking templates. This size is what we recommend, but it really, that's just a starting point. So if you have your own dimensions that you're using for your product images, go for it. If you want to do like a really tall one, you know, like 900 by 243. I mean, it really, it's responsive. MemberVault will play around with.
Erin Kelly [00:04:21]:
It'll shift depending on what size you choose. So this is just the starting point. And if you have your own brand images that you're using, just tweak one for that. And in Canva, they have a ton of different pictures, so it could even be just a picture of someone on a computer or people talking or something like that. It does not spend, don't get stuck in these details. So don't get stuck on the title. Don't get stuck on the image. If you don't already have a brand layout that you're following, because that's not the important part.
Erin Kelly [00:04:54]:
So you'll upload your image there and then here in the description. So the people that you're giving access, so all the people that are on your email list, you're going to be giving them bulk access. And so when they log into their MemberVault account, this product is going to show up in the main marketplace. So you want to have a description that's like easy for them to immediately see this product and be like, oh, like maybe they're, you know, going to go, maybe they like, answer some of the questions and then they come back later. You just want it to be like something really quick that they can remember what the product is. So two to five sentences on why you want to know more about them, how you use the info and what they are going to get for sharing a peek into their brain. Right. So I gave you an example.
Erin Kelly [00:05:40]:
Basically, just keep it really simple, keep it really transparent. Just casual. We're overhauling our onboarding process, so I'd love to get some insights on what will make your life easier as a thank you for your time and energy. If you can complete the five questions by x date, we'll send a surprise, a special surprise gift to your inbox. So the incentive, I'll talk about a little bit more inside of the lesson. But just those are the really, like, key points that you want to hit on. Those are the things that they're going to care about, right? Like why should I do this? How are you going to use this information? And is there a deadline? And so you don't have to have a deadline, but a deadline does add a little bit more urgency. So people will take the time, you know, they want to get that surprise gift or they want to, if you want to tell them what the gift is, they want to get that discount or they want to get that bonus.
Erin Kelly [00:06:23]:
And so they'll, they'll take five minutes to answer the question. So it is helpful to put a deadline on there, but you don't have to. So that's totally, totally up to you. So the description is what's going to show up underneath the product image inside of their, like, benzene by marketplace where they can see all the products that they have access to and all the products that they can purchase or sign up for. And then the welcome message is what happens when they click past the description, when they want to learn more about the product or they want to go into the product that's when they see the welcome message. So the welcome message is just going to basically be a recap a little bit longer of what you have as a description. So thank them for their time recap. Again, while you're asking questions, how you use the info and what they're going to get.
Erin Kelly [00:07:03]:
Right? So repetition, don't overthink this. So basically it's almost exactly what I have for the description, but I added a yay first name. Really appreciate the time. Once you complete the five questions, be a reminder of the deadline. We'll send over a special surprise gift to your inbox. Oh, and you'll have our undying appreciation. Right. So just be really appreciative because they are giving you their time.
Erin Kelly [00:07:26]:
And then, you know, go ahead and save, although the auto save will also take care of that for you. So just remember, you're going to need to, for this particular page, what you need to do is change the title. It can be, you know, as simple as like hey, first name, and add an image. Then over here in, and we're not going to worry about the signup type because we're not going to make this available for people to sign up, sign up to if they aren't already on your list. So then we're going to go into edit modules. And the really cool thing is when you, there's that laundry. The really cool thing about if you have a module, one module and one lesson in your product, if you make the module title the exact same as the lesson title, when the user is actually like clicking through, it'll skip the module level, it'll skip that section. So don't worry about, you can put a module image if you want to, but don't put anything here in the short description or in the description.
Erin Kelly [00:08:26]:
Leave those blank. And then we're going to go over here to lesson and you can, obviously, if you don't like telling me about you, you can change it to something else. Just make sure that it's the same for the module title and the lesson title here for video type. This is totally optional, but if you want to make this even more of a relationship building experience for your audience, you can drop in a short video that is, you know, again, I would just follow that kind of template that I've given you. Right? What is this? What kind of questions are you asking? How are you going to use it? Why should they answer them? And, you know, kind of just like that appreciation of like I really appreciate your time. I appreciate you being a part of my audience, you know, I would weave in a little bit. Definitely say your name. I love helping people with X.
Erin Kelly [00:09:15]:
Right. So whatever topic that you really specialize in so that you're really just like reinforcing what you want to be known for and you're reinforcing your name recognition and just that like relationship building. Video is fantastic for that. Audio is also really good. So just be thinking about it. Totally optional. If that stresses you out, don't worry about it. Do not get stuck there.
Erin Kelly [00:09:40]:
But if you do want to do it, I highly recommend Loom. It's really easy to use. It's actually what I'm using right now. And they have like a Chrome extension. It's free. And so you can just like really quickly. I have an idea. I want to throw this together.
Erin Kelly [00:09:54]:
You know, do a really quick recording, even if you have laundry in the background, and then grab the embed for the loom and you would choose other and then drop the entire embed code there. But if you also, if you like uploading things to YouTube or Vimeo, then those are also options that you can use. And of course, if you use like Wistia or something like that, you can use other as well. So that's, that's totally optional, though. Great for, I mean, I'm doing a video now, right? So video and audio are fantastic for relationship building and trust building, which is so every time you engage with your audience, the more that you can like really deepen that relationship, the better. But again, if that really stresses you out, don't worry about it. So lesson text. So this information, this text in here, you're going to want to delete that out because that is my message to you.
Erin Kelly [00:10:46]:
You don't want to leave that for your audience to read. So basically, I'm giving you a recap of why we really like quiz questions and it's something that membervault excels at. So starting a conversation, the reason why we put this product together is because it can benefit any business level. So whether you're a huge business with a huge established email list, or you're just starting out and you're still kind of like tweaking what you're doing and how you're offering it and all that good stuff, this product is going to really help you get that invaluable market research. It's going to make you feel closer to your audience. I know that one of the big issues with email lists, even if you have a huge list, and sometimes even more so when you have a huge list, because you kind of feel even more disconnected is that you feel like you're sending into the void. You aren't really sure what they want to know more about. Like you aren't really sure where to segment.
Erin Kelly [00:11:36]:
You know, it feels really one sided. And what we've discovered is when users start adding quiz questions into their freebies and into their paid products and just really weaving quiz questions throughout their membervault account, that they instantly feel closer to their audience. And so this is a really, really, really great way to reengage your audience, learn more about them, feel closer to them. It's fantastic for learning about leads. Someone is checking out all of your paid products but hasn't signed up yet. If you have a bunch of quiz questions, you can actually go into their user account or into their user feed and see all the quiz questions they've answered. That's super, super valuable in terms of getting a sense of where they are in the process of whatever topic that you're teaching on and where they're really struggling. And then when you email them, you can make it super personalized.
Erin Kelly [00:12:29]:
And so it's just been, that's something that has been really beneficial for every user that we've talked to. And so we really want to make it easy for you to actually take action on this and get your quiz questions out and learn more about your audience. So that's the reason why we really like quiz questions. One thing for you to know is if you do have a deadline on this and you are going to be deleting it when you delete a product or a module or a lesson, any answers to quiz questions that were in that product, module or lesson will also be deleted. So I highly recommend if you are going to have a deadline and you are going to delete the product or module or lesson, export the quiz answers and I'll do a screenshot on how to do that. But make sure that you export those answers so that you have a record of it and we are going to be fixing it so that doesn't happen, like moving forward. This is something that we're going to be doing behind the scenes. But for right now, just know that when you delete the product, module or lesson where a quiz question exists, the answers to those quiz questions disappear.
Erin Kelly [00:13:33]:
So you can export them and keep a record of it. So the questions. So this is a super long list of quiz questions that I've used, quiz questions that are users. I posted in the collaborative and asked people, you know, what are really helpful quiz questions that you've asked. So it's a combination of things that I've used and then things that other people have used. And so you're not going to want to use all of them. There's too many. I recommend having between five to eight quiz questions for this product.
Erin Kelly [00:14:02]:
Any more than that and people are going to really drop off because they're going to like get halfway through and then they're going to be like, oh, my gosh, this is taking way too long, or like, my brain is fried. I don't know. And so yes, you can get them to come back in and finish it, but that's going to take a little bit more effort and you're going to have to keep reminding them. And so I think the sweet spot is like five to eight unless you have some kind of like, ridiculous incentive that really, really is going to incentivize them to do more to answer more quiz questions. So, and then the other little, like, caveat to that is if you have a bunch of multiple choice questions because those are easier, right? Like you can just say yes, no, or like choose the option that fits you. Doesn't take quite as much effort as essay questions. So if you have, you know, a bunch of multiple choice questions, then you can have more than five to eight. But again, I wouldn't go like that much farther past ten because there just is that like fatigue of like, ugh, like how long is this survey? Right.
Erin Kelly [00:14:58]:
So just kind of keep that in mind as far as, like, that's like a good sweet spot is to have five to eight quiz questions. And you can always, you can always send like a follow up survey to the people that complete this one, right? So it's not like this is your last chance to ask them any questions. It's just the first step in the process, then the incentive. So I highly recommend giving some kind of reward. They are giving you their time. And yes, your audience members, they are people that are on your list. They are a little bit more committed to you than people that are completely cold leads that aren't on your email list. But even so, I mean, time is valuable.
Erin Kelly [00:15:35]:
I appreciate that you're watching this video, right? So time is really valuable and you want to reward them for giving up their time and also giving you a peek into their brain. So I, and I, plus, everyone loves gifts and prizes, right? So make it fun. So here are some ideas. Again, this is just to get you started. The sky is the limit on this. Like you, there's so many different ways that you could play around with it. But like the first 15 to answer, get a discount or a call with you or a product that you have, another invisible product that you have in your MemberVault's account or a book that you're writing or, you know, like, there's so many different ways that you could do that. Um, or like a card in the mail from you, a thank you card, you know, like, it's like you can get really creative and have fun with it.
Erin Kelly [00:16:20]:
Everyone gets a draw, an invite to a live workshop or a do it yourself product. It could be something that's not created yet, right? So, like, this could be this. These quiz questions that you're asking could be informing the thing that you're going to reward them with. And so kind of keep that in mind. Like, it doesn't have to be something that you have already. It could be something that you're creating in the future. And it could be like, I have this as an example, a roundup of the answers. So if it's something that's, if you're asking quiz questions that are going to get answers that would also be relevant to your audience, maybe you are a social media visibility expert and so you're asking all kinds of questions about favorite hashtags, what's really worked for you, what hasn't worked for you, what are your biggest struggles, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Erin Kelly [00:17:08]:
If those are the kind of quiz questions that you're asking for your survey, that might also be interesting to your audience of people that are trying to be more visible on social media because it'll make them feel like they're not the only ones that are struggling with this and it'll give them ideas on things that they can try. And you can always add little side notes of, this is what worked really well for this user. But I also recommend doing this so it really makes you stand out as an expert. So get creative. It does not have to be this huge thing that you are creating. And in fact, I recommend for incentives, don't make it really huge. Don't make it. I'm going to give you access to like mega course that I have, right? Like, it should be something short and sweet and like fun and consumable and that makes them feel special and seen and like you appreciate them.
Erin Kelly [00:17:55]:
So those are some ideas for you to play around with. And then down here is the link to my three email swipes. So once you have your quiz questions chosen and this product has like, the product image and you change the title and you've given access to all of your users, which I'm going to show you how to do that in just a second, you can use the three email swipes. You don't have to use them, but they're written like Madlib style so that you can fill it in and make it feel very personalized. And I will also in the Google Doc show you or tell you, like, my recommended sending frequency because I know that's a big place that people kind of get stuck. Like how many days should go in between each email. So that'll be in the Google Doc and you can use all the emails. One of the emails, choose some of the information from them and not all of it, or just copy and paste all three and follow the exact send frequency that I give you.
Erin Kelly [00:18:48]:
And then also I wanted to give credit to all the people that from the Collaborative, all of our users that suggested quiz questions, so you can go and click on them and go and check out their MemberVault accounts. Love our crowdsourcing. It's always great to see what other people are having success with. So there's actually going to be more close questions here before I'm done, but I don't think I'm going to add more than 20 just because then it's going to be a lot of effort for you to go and delete them. So this is how that works. So once you have this set up and you have your information in here, as far as like, lesson text would be, you know, thank you so much. You know, jump right in, don't put a bunch of information in there. You can recap again, this is what I'm really excited about having this information for.
Erin Kelly [00:19:36]:
As with any copywriting expert would tell you, put your focus on them. So what are they going to care about? Rather than like, I, I, I. The more you say I in your copy, the more you need to change that and flip it to you, because people care about how it's relevant to them. Right? So that's just kind of like a little side note, don't, you don't need to make the lesson text super long because our biggest goal here is, again, to get them to answer those questions. So we don't want to make them do a lot of work and heavy lifting before they get to that. So there's a bunch of different quiz questions to choose from. I would look through, choose the five to eight that you want to use and then the ones that you don't want to use, you'll just click edit and then click delete and then the delete button. And when you go in to edit it to change it.
Erin Kelly [00:20:24]:
So for example, you know, you would say, like, share what has worked for you in the past four and then this is where you're going to be adding your personalization, right? So whatever topic that you focus on, let's say you're a LinkedIn expert, share what is worked for you in the past for being visible on LinkedIn, right? Like it would be something like that. So again, don't overthink this. And you could get this survey out and then see the first answers that are kind of trickling in. Like is the wording of the question getting the answers that you're looking for, or are they kind of like not answering what you're looking for? Right. So I've had that experience when I'm writing quiz questions and like, oh, like I probably should have been a little bit more clear. And so I'll actually just go in and edit. And even after I've shared it, I'll go in and edit. I'll tweak the quiz question so that anyone else that answers the question after that point will see the revised question.
Erin Kelly [00:21:17]:
So again, don't overthink these things. We're very much like agile approach, like get it out there, minimum viable product, just ship it. If you're a Seth Godin fan, just get it out there in perfect action and then you can tweak as you go. So that is how you're going to go and choose the quiz questions that you want to include. So five to eight, delete the rest. And once you've changed your, deleted this stuff and deleted this stuff and added your content in there, go back to the main product view, added the product image, changed the product title. Once you've made those tweaks, it's going to be ready for you to go ahead and give access. So this right here is super handy for products that you want to give access to for everyone that's a user.
Erin Kelly [00:22:11]:
If you have not imported your users yet from your email list, I highly recommend going and doing that. And so you'll just go into over here into settings and email integration and you'll hook up your email account. So whether you're using active campaign or Mailchimp or Convertkit, whatever, we have step-by-step guidelines on like how to do that. Super easy, takes you like 2 seconds and then that way there's other side benefits, but that way you can easily do a bulk add of all your subscribers into MemberVault. Then you'll go ahead and come in here and give all of those users access to this product. So obviously we have all of our users in here. So I would just go ahead and click the give access to remaining 5675 users. And so now they all have access to the starter conversation product once I've clicked that.
Erin Kelly [00:23:05]:
And so when they log in, even if I don't send any emails, when they log in, they'll see that they have access to this survey and they can, you know, fill it out. And if you have a pretty active account, this is why I say make sure that it's ready for view. Like make sure that you've done that, you tweaked the title and you changed the text and you've added your image. Because like, I know our accounts pretty active where we have a lot of people logging in every day. And so even if I don't, if I make it active and I give them access and I haven't even emailed it yet, they still might be popping into our membervault marketplace and see that they have access to a new product and pop in there and start answering questions. So that's just kind of the order that I would recommend is make sure that it's ready and then the last step is to go ahead and give access to your remaining or to your users and then you're ready to go ahead and use those three email swipes that I've given you that are in the lesson text. So I think that pretty much wraps up everything that you need to know to use this product. I hope that it works really well for you.
Erin Kelly [00:24:09]:
Definitely post in the Collaborative, let us know how it's going and give us feedback. Are you getting people into your account? Are the emails working to get them into your account? Are they answering the questions? How are you using the answers? What incentive did you come up with? All of that information is so fun to see. And definitely tag me because I love hearing how everything is working and it also informs how I can make this product even better. So good luck and happy quiz question asking.
