Introducing our brand new series all about SEO! You'll learn foundational things that you can easily implement in your business even if you're a complete beginner. We brought in SEO expert, Mariah, to break things down for you.
Once you have your SEO foundation set up & in place, you have to give it time to work a little bit. Usually around 60-90 days minimum.
I usually suggest to clients to set a reminder on their phone, or somewhere else to check back in on their data after that timeframe. (A few ways to check in on your data are outlined above!)
And then we continue testing & tweaking!
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you’ve been dabbling in SEO and you’re frustrated that you’re not getting results, remember that if you want to get on page #1, you have to be the BEST solution to the problem AND portray that to Google. That’s SEO in a nutshell. Start there. This page that’s not ranking, is it the best solution for the keyword someone typed in?
The cool thing about SEO is that it’s organic & free. But that’s also the challenge with SEO because you’re not the *only* one who wants to show up on Google for that keyword. You have competition in search results. It’s just the nature of the game. So, think about the user and what would be most helpful for them.
2 examples & what to do:
#1) Identify keywords with low click-through-rate (CTR) and improve your SEO title & meta description
This data can be found in Google Search Console.
Find keywords that rank on page #1 (there are *usually* 10 organic search options per page so look for position #1-10) but have low CTR.
A good CTR between 5-10%.
Improve the SEO title and meta description of the page's ranking for those keywords.
#2) Identify which keywords you’re not showing up on page #1 for (that are a priority to you) and optimize the page based on research
This data can be found in Google Search Console, Semrush, or another SEO traffic analyzer tool (Ahrefs, Moz, etc)
(I usually prefer looking at this stuff in Semrush because it’s easier to navigate & see things from a bird's eye perspective, although Google Search Console data can be slightly more accurate, it’s harder to explore).
Google Search Console: Performance >> Click “Average position” box @ the top >> Scroll down to the table where you can see the queries and the position for each.
Semrush: Competitive Research >> Organic Research tool. Scroll down to the table where you can see the keyword, position, and the URL that’s ranking in that position.
But how do you improve the rankings for those keywords & pages????
It’s gonna take some research.
When it comes to improving the SEO of a page or keyword, we’re essentially trying to do a bit of digging around and research so we can make an estimated decision on maybe WHY Google is putting the other people on page #1 and not you. Look at who’s showing up, and then work backward.
